Kes

I have just been to the captioned performance of Kes at the Kings Theatre. It was a brilliant and very moving production. It was so good not to have to strain to hear what the actors were saying and the captions were very clear.

This is only my second captioned show. I was sitting in the stalls in row H and still found it difficult to read and watch at the same time. I had to lift my head up to read the captions. Would it have been better if I had sat further back or in the Circle? Where do other folk choose to sit? I'd be interested to know. Also where to sit in the Playhouse, the Lyceum, and the Festival Theatre.
Hilary.

  1. Hi Hilary, glad you enjoyed Kes. Finding the right seat is important. It seems to be personal preference if you sit to one side or in the middle but there are obviosly some areas that are better than others. It would be good to hear more experiences, Susan

  2. If you go to see a play at the Lyceum avoid the seat "F12". It isn't good at all for reading the captioning. Elena

I was at the Kings last week - Rainman - row L just at the start of the right hand block. Saw the captions fine - but of course they go so quickly, you have to miss some of the action. So in the interval I got hold of the personal loop and the infra red head phones from the excellent front of house staff, to augment the captions. 2nd half worked really well for me - with the headphones (which don't help everyne, but do help me) I was able to manage without reading the captions all the time, so I saw more of the action. Great play - but I wouldn't have got a lot out of it if it hadn't been for the captions -and the headphones helped just that vital bit more.
